This workshop will be held Saturdays from 3-6 pm for 5 weeks starting September 11, 2010.
Sign-ups must be in by September 8th, 2010. Class is limited to 3 sign-ups. Waitlist available.
Week 1 - September 11th
Dress: Workout/loose clothes, the shoes* you intend to perform in...
Needed: 1 yd of fringe, dangle bead or tassel trim for belt shimmies (Available for use)
Lecture: Intro to class, schedule, history of burlesque
Lecture: Content of a number, Classic vs. Neo & Post -Neo
Lecture: Burlesque character & music choices
Movement: Posture, entrances, exits & walks
Movement: Bumps, grinds, shimmies & shakes
Homework: Practice posture, entrances, exits & walks...bumps, grinds, shimmies & shakes
Homework: Come up with 3 songs for a routine & consider style of costume you might want
Week 2 - September 18th
Dress: Workout/loose clothes, the shoes* you intend to perform in...
Dress: Gloves & boa, scarf or large piece of fabric
Dress: Shimmy belt
Needed: Gloves & boa, scarf or large piece of fabric, thigh high stockings (available for use EXCEPT stockings)
Lecture: Costumes, the reveal & the magic of removal, props
Lecture: Pasties, stockings, shoes, accessories & tricks of the trade
Movement: Boas & gloves, fans and other props
Movement: Chairs and floor work
Homework: Write out a draft of your routine,
start gathering the items you need for your costume
Week 3 - September 25th - OFF/No Class
Week 4 - October 2nd
Dress: Workout/loose clothes, routine outfit if available, performance shoes, props and any other related items for your routine
Needed: performance outfit if available, performance shoes, props and any other related items for your final performance
Lecture: Eye contact, audience participation, hair and make-up
Movement: "Dancing in shoes you shouldn't be walking in"
Review: Group discussion, routine troubleshooting, graduation preparation and students choices
Homework: Final costume decision, finalize routine & music
Week 5 - Graduation - Date to be determined
Graduation Performance (Optional) to be held at the studio.
General Dress: Workout/loose clothes, comfortable heels or character shoes. *6" heels are available for your use if you prefer.
General Items to Bring: Notebook & Pen, Water
